Generating Sales in a tough market – Four Top Tips

No one can deny this is a tough market. With high inflation, cost of living problems together with high energy costs; generating sales is not easy. Most people are looking for ways to save money rather than spend it. People want to get as much as they can by spending as little as possible. They quite simply don’t have the spare cash.

Trying to generate sales in this market is hard. All too frequently companies simply add to the problems by increasing prices – which only makes things worse in the long term.

Instead, why not look on it as a challenge? It marks a good point at which to reassess your marketing and sales activity and explore other potential avenues.

Don’t neglect existing customers

Existing customers are already convinced by your product offer. They like it and will undertake repurchases. Use your customer lists to offer special promotions and discounts, encouraging them to buy more and more often. Always remember that it is a lot easier to sell to convinced customers than to obtain new ones!

1. Use Value-added techniques

People like to think they are getting something special, of extra quality. Make sure they are aware of the sheer value of your product or service. Think about ways you can add extra value at little or no cost to your business. It might be through extra sampling, bundling products or simply making your brand more visible.

2. Publicity

Being active, running promotions, promoting your company on social media or in store helps build a strong brand. Why not consider some quick publicity by using a character mascot at an event, or hiring a few actors and dancers to create an attention grabbing flash mob? It makes very good publicity since passers by often join in, film it for social media and with luck, a promotion of this kind can easily go viral giving you extensive publicity at very little cost.

3. Be positive

A positive attitude is more likely to be successful than a negative one. With lots of negative feeling around from people worrying about costs, income, trying to stay alive; it can be hard to be positive. Taking positive actions to encourage sales and motivate other members of the company can make a difference. As soon as people feel more positive, then their attitudes change. If they feel they are doing something that will have an effect, it will rub off on others.

4.Low cost promotions

Yes, times are hard, but there are opportunities out there. The key to success is recognising those opportunities and taking action. Think about all you can do for little or no cost – you don’t have to undertake a massively expensive advertising campaign to drum up sales.
