Event Marshals for Spartan

Spartan races are no ordinary races. It is not just a matter of running from one point to another – participants also have to climb walls and pass through many other obstacles en route. The exact number depends on the race length. A three mile race might have just 20 obstacles while a 14 mile race has around 35.

It’s challenging and a real test of endurance especially since the races often take place in the depths of the countryside, away from cities and towns. Not surprisingly, marshals take a very important role in each race.

Asked to supply up to 40 marshals per race, at 13 UK based locations; we quickly realised that this was no ordinary requirement. Our marshals had to be very versatile, and able to think on their feet dealing with any situation that arose. There were lots of roles that had to be fulfilled during each race since they were scattered along the entire length of the course. Tasks varied from acting as an emergency contact in the event of incidents to distributing refreshments to guests, and even keeping log fires fuelled.

We also had to organise transport very carefully. Many of the locations where the marshals were to be stationed en route were very rural and it needed a lot of logistical planning on the part of our events team to make sure that all the marshals arrived in the right place at the right time. Covid regulations provided an extra level of difficulty that had to be factored in. Due to the time of the events, we had to ensure that all staff took a lateral flow test 24 hours before working, with positive staff being replaced. It meant that we had to have extra trained staff on standby ready to take over whenever a marshal received a positive test. There was no margin for error.

Our marshals rose to the occasion, performing brilliantly at every stage along the route of the first Spartan Race. So successful were the marshals that the client booked Envisage to provide marshals at a further eleven events, making Envisage the sole supplier of UK Spartan Event Marshals.
