Ten Facts You May Not Know About Christmas!
For a celebration that takes place every year without fail, there is an incredible amount of history behind the festivities that a lot of people aren’t aware of. The list of facts is endless, whether or not these snowflakes of knowledge are true we’ll leave for you to find out.
Fact 1 – 80% of people would rather receive a traditional card than an electronic message
Many would think that the tradition of sending Christmas cards to friends and relatives would have ended with social media platforms providing free and easy to use systems that keep people connected. According to research from the mail experts, Royal Mail, 80% of people would rather receive a traditional card than an electronic message. Sir Henry Cole, the man responsible for creating the very first Christmas card, was too busy to personally wish a merry Christmas to everyone so instead just sent a card. One thousand of these cards were printed, and at the time were regarded as an item of luxury. The exact card that Henry sent to his grandmother in 1843 still holds that luxurious value, at auction it was sold for a colossal £20,000.

Fact 7 – Mince Pies made of Meat!!!
Mince Pies are called just that because in Victorian times they were made with beef and spices. Not sure they would taste the same with cream!
Fact 8 – What are the chances of a White Christmas?
Getting snow on Christmas day, the chance is getting lower and lower each year. It is now just 1 in 10 for England and Wales, and 1 in 6 for Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Of course, it had to be America. Built In 1999 the state of Maine in America made a snowman who was 113ft tall.
Fact 9 – Christmas pudding started as a soup which was made with raisins and wine.
Fact 10 – How fast in Santa?
Again in America, US scientists worked out that Santa would have to visit 822 homes a second to deliver all the world’s presents on Christmas Eve, travelling at 650 miles a second. Clearly have too much time on their hands!
